Though both give storehouse results, they're designed for different use cases and have distinct functionalities.

Amazon S3 is an object storage service ideal for storing unstructured data similar as images, vids, backups, and static website content. One of the crucial differences between S3 and EBS lies in how data is stored and managed. With S3, data is penetrated via APIs, which means there's a slight quiescence, but it's extremely effective for large-scale, read-intensive operations. EBS, being a block-position storehouse, is directly attached to cases, making it brisk for I/O operations, but less flexible in terms of scalability and distribution.

Security and continuity also differ. S3 automatically replicates data across multiple availability zones, offering 99.999999999 (11 nines) continuity. EBS offers high availability within a single availability zone and supports snapshots for backup and recovery. Still, EBS data is more tightly coupled with EC2 cases, while S3 data can be accessed from anywhere.

Cost-wise, S3 tends to be more cost-effective for long-term data storage, especially with occasional access patterns or archival requirements. EBS is more expensive due to its high-performance design, but necessary for charge-critical operations demanding presto and harmonious access to data.
