Criminals use sexual abuse to humiliate and control the victim. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV, 2007) reports that sexual assault or forced sex occurs in approximately 40-45% of violent relationships. A June 2009 USDOJ report went on to say that where domestic violence involves physical abuse, studies suggest sexual abuse is likely as well.
